Chatham asks for lower speed limits
Feb 23, 2018 3:55 pm
Emilia Teasdale reports in The Columbia Paper that the Chatham Town Board approved motions at its Feb. 15 meeting authorizing Highway Superintendent Joe Rickert to ask the county and the state to lower speed limits in the hamlets of New Concord and East Chatham. Residents near New Concord Road, where the speed limit is 35 mph, and County Route 9, where it is 40 mph, requested lower limits. But the town can only lower speed limits on its own roads, and must make a request of the county and state in this case. Chatham Supervisor Maria Lull told the residents the town’s Enhanced Enforcement patrols are on hold through winter, but will resume in March, with a deputy monitor speeding on these roads. “We’re working with you. We’ll do the best we can,” Lull said at the meeting. The next Chatham board meeting will be at 6 p.m., Thu., March 15 at the Town Hall. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
