Rep. Chris Gibson and his Democratic opponent in the 19th Congressional District race Sean Eldridge debated Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. on WMHT-TV and streamed online at http://www.wmht.org/live/. According to the account by Kyle Hughes of nysnys [dot] com, Gibson and Eldridge agreed on the SAFE Act, gun control legislation and various threats posed to the U.S., but little else during the one-hour discussion. Asked to rate President Barack Obama on a scale of 1 to 10 (a "10" being "the best"), Gibson gave the president a "6," while Eldridge rated him "about a 4 or 5." Election Day is Nov. 4.
