Cynthia Stephens, of Sacred Ground Productions LLC sacredgroundproductions.com returns to Li Le Li Tan on Sunday, December 15, 2024 to discuss her new book "HOUSE OF COLORISM" a compilation of 14 personal stories told by both young and elderly people who have suffered from colorism, perpetrated colorism, or were bystanders who witnessed its practices. We must continue to break the silence about the devastation caused by colorism discrimination, as well as to offer practical suggestions on how to combat this form of oppression. Because it is one of the most injurious and insidious forms of Black-on-Black torture. Its practices are destructive, often leading to debilitating mental health challenges, which the field of psychology and psychoanalysis are ill equipped to address. It is unfortunate, but we still need to talk about this.

COLORISM DEFINITION Pulitzer Prize winner, Alice Walker, in 1982 discussed colorism and its devastating effects on the Black community. Ms. Walker offered a definition of colorism which included preference for lighter skin tones within a race of people. Adding to the above definition of colorism is a conference, on those with lighter skin, of privileges in the areas of social standing, jobs, education, housing, and the criminal justice system. Colorism discrimination is also said to improve marriageability, especially of women with light skin-tones.
