Climate change public opinion map unveiled

Brian Nearing is reporting at The Green Blog a team of researchers from Yale University unveiled Mon., Apr. 6, an interactive, online map that measures climate change opinion and public policy support in all 50 states. The map breaks down opinions on a variety of questions, including whether people are worried about climate change, whether human activity is causing it and what ought to be done in response. In the Capital Region, the majority of people are worried about climate change and want to see carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas created by fossil fuel combustion, regulated as a form of pollution. Public worry statewide ranges from a low of 49 percent in Niagara County to a high of 73 percent in Manhattan. Locally, that rate of worry was 62 percent in Albany County, 60 percent in Columbia County, 58 percent in Rensselaer County and 57 percent in Greene County. Saratoga County is the only local county where a majority of people do not believe that human activity, in the form of fossil fuel emissions, is causing climate change.
