HHA board elects new officers

Aliya Schneider is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Hudson Housing Authority Board of Commissioners has elected Marie Balle its the new chairwoman, Revonda Smith its vice chairwoman, and Rebecca Wolff was elected treasurer. Randall Martin, the board's former chairman, has submitted his letter of resignation. “I think this will be a very active board over the next year. Funding for Bliss [Towers] and increasing access to affordable housing in Hudson are top of the list,” Balle said. She previously served as vice chairwoman and briefly as treasurer. “I was honored to accept the vice chair position on the HHA committee,” Smith said. “Being born and raised in Bliss Towers and Columbia Apartments, I felt like this was a duty and must for me to be a part of this board, for the tenants and the people of the community." Wolff said of her selection, “I’m happy to serve as treasurer in the hopes that I can bring continued good oversight to the HHA budgeting process.” Accomplishments during Martin’s tenure included major renovations and repairs to critical building systems, upgrading apartments and common areas, installation of a computer lab for tenants, removal of a black iron fence that surrounded the property, hiring a diverse and inclusive staff, increased support services for residences, increased safety and security and helping establish a financial foundation with their Rental Assistance Demonstration, or RAD, conversion, he said. The board also successfully navigated the COVID-19 pandemic with regulations that led to no confirmed cases, Martin said. Martin is a volunteer programmer at WGXC.
