Confederates still at Ulster County Fair

William J. Kemble reports in the Daily Freeman that the band Confederate Railroad might not be performing at the Ulster County Fair this year, but there are still confederate flags for sale. The fair has banned the sale of so-called "stars and bars" merchandise since 2015, but the newspaper reported, "On Tuesday, though, three vendors were selling the banned merchandise at the county fairgrounds on Libertyville Road in New Paltz." “To be very honest ... we haven’t had a chance to even think, [much less] go around and start checking, but we will,” Gary Newkirk, the fair's general manager, said. He planned to speak to the vendors selling Confederate-themed T-shirts, belt buckles, and small skulls. Earlier in the week, the fair canceled the band Confederate Railroad because of their name.
