WGXC Afternoon Show: Abdullah Ibrahim (Abdullah Ibrahim Trio); re-air of Shawné Michaelain Holloway and Tara Aisha Willis (EMPAC) (Audio)

Nov 13, 2024

Today on the "WGXC Afternoon Show," tune in at 4:10 p.m. for a conversation between distinguished pianist Abdullah Ibrahim and "Music for the Masses" host Neva Wartell. Abdullah Ibrahim performs in "The Egg Presents: Abdullah Ibrahim Trio / Sandhi Trio" as part of the Resonance Series this Sunday, November 17 at The Egg in Albany. Abdullah Ibrahim is South Africa’s most distinguished pianist and a world-respected master musician. Born in 1934 in Cape Town, Dollar Brand, as he became known, was exposed to a melting pot of cultural influences: African Khoi-san songs, Christian hymns, gospel tunes and spirituals, as well as American jazz, township jive, and classical music. Out of this blend of the secular and religious, and the traditional and the modern, Abdullah Ibrahim’s distinctive sound and musical vocabulary was born.

During the 5 p.m. hour, tune in for a re-airing of Monday's conversation between "WGXC Afternoon Show" host Kieran Riley, EMPAC artist-in-residence Shawné Michaelain Holloway, and EMPAC curator-in-residence Tara Aisha Willis about Tara's curatorial series Ephemeral Organ that kicks off with talks by Tara on Tues., November 12 ("Ephemeral Organs: Dance, Curation, Research, and Performance") and by Shawné on Thur., November 14 ("Investigation trigger mechanisms, machine learning, and bodily gesture").

Tune into the “WGXC Afternoon Show” for local news, interviews with community leaders and personalities, reports on cultural issues, a rundown of public meetings and local and regional events, weather updates, and more about and for the community, made by volunteers in the community.
