Early primary voting starts Saturday

Ariél Zangla is reporting for the Daily Freeman early voting for primaries in New York will begin Sat., June 13. A Democratic primary will be held in the presidential race, as well as to select six delegates to the Democratic National Convention from New York's 19th Congressional District. There also will be a Republican primary in the 19th Congressional District between Ola Hawatmeh and Kyle Van De Water. The winner will face incumbent Democrat Antonio Delgado of Rhinebeck in the November election. Village elections have been postponed to September 15. In Columbia County, all early voting will take place at the county office building located at 401 State Street. In Greene County, early voting will be available In Suite 430 at the Greene County Office Building at 411 Main Street in Catskill. Polls in both counties will be open Sat., June 13 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.); Sun., June 14 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.); Mon., June 15 (noon to 8 p.m.); Tue., June 16 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); Wed., June 17 (noon to 8 p.m.); Thu., June 18 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); Fri., June 19 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); Sat., June 20 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.); and Sun., June 21 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.). While in-person voting will be available for early voting and on Primary Day, June 23, eligible voters were mailed applications to request absentee ballots. Under an executive order signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, voters can choose "temporary illness or physical disability" to request an absentee ballot if they are concerned about contracting the coronavirus as result of going to a polling site.
