Court keeps Constitution Pipeline on hold

Jan 13, 2018 12:05 am
Natasha Vaughn reports in the Democrat and Chronicle that the Constitution Pipeline lost another court battle Jan. 11. The Federal Energy Regulation Commission ruled against its petition to overturn a state decision denying it permits to build the 124-mile pipeline from Pennsylvania and through Delaware and Schoharie counties in New York. “We are planning to seek rehearing and, if necessary, appeal of this decision in order to continue to develop this much-needed infrastructure project designed to bring natural gas to a region of the country that has recently experienced demand resulting in the highest natural gas prices in the world," Constitution Pipeline officials said in a statement. Environmental advocates were happy with the decision. “The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission affirmed what we all know—New York has the right and responsibility to protect our waterways,” Wes Gillingham, director of the New York environmental group, Catskill Mountainkeeper, said in a statement.
