Ichabod Crane enrollment future looks stable

Nov 19, 2018 12:22 am
Emilia Teasdale reports in The Columbia Paper that a study says enrollment in the Ichabod Crane school district should stay stable over the next eight years. The last time a similar study was done, in 2009, enrollment was predicted to decline. Consultant Paul Seversky said that Ichabod Crane has a high percentage of “kids born somewhere else that came here and enrolled in your kindergarten.” The school has about 4 percent more kindergarten students enrolled than were born in the district, according to Seversky. The Ichabod Crane high school has the largest drop in enrollment, though Seversky says the district did not have a major “pupil flight” to private schools like other districts in the area. The school board board recently proposed a $27-million capital improvement project that includes work on all three school buildings that goes to a vote December 12.
