Casino on track to open at the Newburgh Mall
MidHudson News is reporting the electronic gaming casino proposal by Resorts World Catskills for the Newburgh Mall has now cleared several major hurdles. The Newburgh Town Board May 24, approved a negative declaration of environmental impacts and also approved a zoning change that would allow for the casino to be located at the mall. Town Supervisor Gil Piaquadio said the casino will be the first and only such operation in Newburgh and in Orange County. “The town has hosted similar uses in the past. An off-track betting facility was located at the Mid-Valley Mall for several years without incident, to my knowledge, and historically, Pine Point Casino at Orange Lake operated from the late 1800s until the 1950s hosting such entertainers as Frank Sinatra and Benny Goodman,” he said. The town board also approved a host benefit agreement which will result in tens of thousands of dollars going to the town and to the county. Read the full story at MidHudsonNews [dot] com.
