Greene, Columbia counties accepting tax prepayments

Richard Moody is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media taxpayers in both Columbia and Greene counties can now claim full itemized deductions for state and local property taxes by prepaying for next year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order December 22, removing the legal barriers to prepayment and authorizing legislative bodies to issue 2018 tax warrants by December 28, and for tax collectors to accept those payments. The Columbia County Board of Supervisors approved the county’s tax warrant at its year-end meeting, December 28. Suzette Booy (Bo͞o-ē) , Director of the Columbia County Real Property Tax Service Agency, said prepayment will only apply to town and county taxes, not school taxes. The governor's order also expedited the assessment of property taxes in Greene County, said Raymond Ward, director of the county's Real Property Tax Service. Greene County residents can view their tax bill within their town collection system, he said. Paper invoices went out earlier this week, he said. “Not everyone can see a physical bill, but they can see the amount on their collection system," Ward said.
