Greenville's VonAtzingen named Greene Co. Senior Citizen of the Year

Andrea Macko is reporting for the Greenville Pioneer William VonAtzingen, 86, of Greenville, has been named the Greene County 2020 Senior Citizen of the Year by the county Department of Human Services. VonAtzingen will be recognized on May 15 at Greene County’s Annual Senior Citizen Day. At that same time Lula Anderson of Ashland will receive the Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen award. Certificates of Merit will be awarded to Robert F. Gurley of Prattsville, Duncan MacPherson of Freehold, Jan Schane of Hunter and Susan VonAtzingen of Greenville. VonAtzingen moved to Greenville in 1957, and opened a clothing store on Main Street. He has been a volunteer for numerous organizations, including the North Hill United Methodist Church. He is a 60-year member of the Greenville Rotary and a life member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Company. From 1972 to 1988, he was a member of the Greenville Rescue Squad. VonAtzingen and Anderson will also be honored on May 19 by state officials at the 2020 Older New Yorkers Day celebration. Read the full story in the Greenville Pioneer.
