Completion of Greenport road project delayed
Richard Moody is reporting in the Register-Star Greenport officials say delays in a street reclamation project are the responsibility of its contractor, Reclamation LLC. Greenport Highway Superintendent Mark Gaylord said the project to reclaim pavement on Charles and Kline streets, and part of Arthur Avenue was supposed to take two weeks, but five weeks into the project, the streets are still covered with dirt and pockmarked with holes. "I would like to apologize for the delay as it has been out of my hands for some time...," Gaylord said Tue., Jun. 6. A representative of the company said the delay was due to unforeseen circumstances, but Gaylord said the contractor, despite calling in Dig Safe, a clearinghouse for these kinds of projects, went ahead during a 48-hour hold and hit several utilities while working. The botched effort has significantly impacted residents. "It has been a mess for five weeks. It has been an inconvenience," said Bob Conte, a resident on Kline Street. A company representative said they are talking to the town about the project and what went wrong. Read the full story in the Register-Star.
