Early tax warrant date for Columbia County is Dec. 28

Dec 27, 2017 1:00 pm

Suzette Booy (Bo͞o-ē) , Director of the Columbia County Real Property Tax Service Agency has announced the Columbia County Board of Supervisors will take the necessary steps this week to allow property owners to pre-pay all or part of their 2018 property taxes, thereby making it possible for taxpayers to keep the state and local tax deductions eliminated by the recently approved federal tax legislation for one more year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order December 22, removing the legal barriers to pre-payment and authorizing legislative bodies to issue 2018 tax warrants before 11:59 p.m., December 28, and for tax collectors to accept those payments. According to an email from Booy, circulated by Ghent Community Action Network, the Columbia County Board of Supervisors is prepared to receive the tax rolls and warrants for each municipality located within the county during its year-end meeting at 3 p.m., December 28. Tax collectors must wait to receive payments until after the warrants are approved at the meeting. Cuomo's order also allows tax collectors to accept postmarked dates from the receipt of the tax warrant through December 31, as well as partial payments. Information is available from the county tax collector, the county treasurer or individual town tax collector offices.
