Marchione 'wins' environmental award
Oct 09, 2014 1:00 pm
Rick Karlin in the Albany Times-Union reports that Environmental Advocates, a statewide environmental organization, on Oct. 8 gave Sen. Kathy Marchione its annual "Oil Slick" award, denouncing her environmental action. Marchione, a Halfmoon-based Republican who represents the 43rd Senate District including parts of Rensselaer and Columbia counties, got the group's focus for Marchione's work to repeal 2,000 regulations that she says are harmful to business. The bill Marchione championed never became law, and her staff counter the claims by touting her work on environmental funding and Superfund cleanups. "Marchione spokesman Josh Fitzpatrick derided the award as 'bogus,' saying that only five percent of the rules and regulations identified in that package dealt directly with environmental concerns," Karlin wrote.
