Greenville ZBA grants variance allowing Kelly's COVID testing POD to remain

Mar 15, 2021 1:45 pm

Andrea Macko is reporting for Porcupine Soup the Greenville Zoning Board of Appeals last week granted a setback variance allowing the COVID-19 testing POD located behind Kelly's Pharmacy, on NY Route 81, to remain in place. The variance was necessary because, under town law, the POD is positioned too close to the firehouse. Without the variance, the POD would be forced to close. Pharmacist Quinn Kelly explained that when they installed the POD in December, they were under the impression it did not require a building permit. But under town law, it does. “We look at it as temporary,” said Kelly, adding that he hopes it will not be needed much longer. The property is owned by Tasting Lab owner and pharmacy neighbor Thomas Vance who gave the Kelly’s written permission to bring in the POD. Vance, who serves as chairman of the ZBA, recused himself from the vote last week. The POD is used to conduct COVID-19 testing outside of the actual pharmacy to keep potentially ill people away from the general public. “If we had to test inside the pharmacy, we wouldn’t do it,” said Kelly. “We wanted it to be a separate location to keep people safe.” Kelly's has conducted thousands of tests since January. Kelly's Pharmacy offers rapid antigen tests and provides results in about 15 minutes. Other locations in Greene County to get tested for COVID-19 are EmUrgent Care in Coxsackie and through Greene County Public Health on Wednesday afternoon Read more at porcupine soup [dot] com.
