Catskill seeking funds for water projects

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Catskill Village Board is looking to fund needed updates to the village infrastructure and to improve the quality of its drinking water. Over the coming months village officials will be at work on grant applications for the project. The village Department of Public Works has been battling discolored water from heavy rainfall and water main breaks, often in sub-zero temperatures. In February the village board approved a $250,000 bond to fund the replacement of one of the filters at the water plant as well as new water meters and new billing software to improve service for customers. The grant funding will be used to upgrade the filtration system and to replace the water mains beneath Main Street, Village President Vincent Seeley said. “This work is crucial to continue the development of Catskill,” he said. “We won’t be capable of expanding the system without making an upgrade.” The village recently committed to extending water lines to Green Suites Resort, a 50-unit hotel, to be sited at the Catskill Golf Resort on Brooks Lane in Jefferson Heights.
