Cairo councilman Jason Watts facing criminal charges

Kaitlin Lembo is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media first-term Cairo Town Board member Jason Watts is facing criminal charges after police found a quantity of methadone at his Purling residence, Greene County Sheriff Greg Seeley said February 14. Town Supervisor Daniel Benoit declined to comment on the charges, saying he does not comment on pending litigation. Watts’ attorney, Thomas Vasti III, spoke on behalf of his client, saying, “Jason maintains his innocence and he denies any wrongdoing.” He said Watts, 42, will not allow his need to defend against the charges affect his ability to carry out his duties as a public official. The charges against Watts came on the heels of police charging another man who was staying at the councilman's home, with criminal possession of a weapon. That man, Ryan Feltz, 43, was found in possession of five loaded handguns, 800 rounds of ammunition and survival gear.
