Rosa Acheson in the Register Star reports that with a government shutdown looming on Friday, local Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) has yet to see any plan to keep the federal government operating. “Congressman Faso does not support a government shutdown,” Faso Communications Director Courtney Weaver said April 25. “A shutdown would be prevented by passing appropriations. Rick Karlin in Capitol Confidential reports that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is targeting 30 so-called "moderate" Republican congressional representatives -- including Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) -- who might not vote for the next version of the Republican health care plan that allows states to remove the pre-existing condition. Faso has not said how he will vote on the new bill, and referred questions from the Times Union to the National Republican Campaign Committee. Read the full story in Capitol Confidential.
Congress left Washington D.C. April 28 without voting on a health care bill. Republicans have been working on a second version of their attempt to replace the Affordable Care Act. By all accounts, the new version is more conservative, with states allowed to opt out of insuring all people with pre-existing conditions. Local Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) continues to say he is undecided on the new version of the bill, and wants to see the final language.
