Jimmy Vielkind reports at Capitol Confidential Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has a batch of 71 bills on his desk for signature or veto, including a measure to allow lever voting machines in the New York City mayoral election this year. Cuomo refused earlier this week to indicate whether he would sign or veto that measure. Also on his desk is a bill to exempt retired law enforcement officers from the ammunition restrictions of the SAFE Act, New York's new gun control law. Cuomo said Wed., July 3, he supports that amendment. Other bills awaiting Cuomo's signature include the Assembly bill sponsored by member Steve McLaughlin to extend an additional real estate transfer tax within Columbia County until 2015, and the Senate bill put forward by Cecilia Tkaczyk adding the Mountain Cloves scenic byway into the state scenic byways systems.
