In this broadcast, host George Spencer speaks with three members of the local creative community. Gelah Penn is a sculptor who uses unconventional synthetic materials that she cuts, layers, tears, staples, and stretches. Her work is highly evocative and varies in size from under one foot to ten feet. Her installations are site-specific and are full of ambiguity and unease. She also incorporates aspects of drawing in space in her work.

Katharine Umsted is a creator of highly original sculptures and drawings. The sources of her work are mainly personal. However, the objects she creates are archetypal and political. Much of her sculpture is about protection and vulnerability. Her materials are eclectic including paper, ribbon strips, plaster, and gauze. Her landscape drawings are heavily worked resulting in bruising of the surface suggesting climate degradation.

Chimba was born and grew up in Hudson and studied fashion design at FIT. She paints on canvas and wood. Her current work deals with conception/reproduction which she sees as part of the journey of life of all women. She also paints her own journey. The work is brilliantly colored reflecting the celebratory nature of her subject matter. At the same time, there is the suggestion that things might not always be what they appear.
