Schneiderman to use executive order for first time

Matthew Hamilton is reporting at Capitol Confidential state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced Mon., Aug. 3, he will for the first time use his special powers to investigate the death of a civilian in police custody. Schneiderman will examine the circumstances surrounding the death of 42-year-old Raynette Turner. Turner was found dead in a holding cell in Mount Vernon on Mon., Jul. 27, where she had been awaiting arraignment on charges of shoplifting. Schneiderman was given power to look into and prosecute police killings of civilians last month under an executive order issued by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
