Daniel Zuckerman is reporting in The Daily Mail Athens Town Board member Mary Brandow was ousted as deputy supervisor Tue., Jun. 20, following comments made to the newspaper concerning the case of fellow board member Rick Surrano. In those comments, Brandow called for Surrano to step down from the board following his recent conviction on charges of petit larceny. Town Supervisor Robert Butler Jr. informed Brandow of the demotion via email on Tuesday. “Her lack of judgment warrants it,” Butler said. “I need to have trust and confidence in my deputy,” he said. “She’s still a board member — she won’t be second in command if I’m not there.” However, Brandow said she has not received Butler's email and was still awaiting confirmation of the rumor that she had been stripped of her duties. Not surprisingly, Surrano approved of Butler's actions. “I believe the supervisor made a very quick and decisive decision,” Surrano said. “I believe it was the right call.” Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
