Taconic Hills senior named to Capital District Sports Women of the Year

The Columbia Paper is reporting Taconic Hills High School senior Amelia Canetto has been named one of the 10 scholastic award recipients for 2020 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year. Canetto competes in field hockey as well as track and field. She will be recognized at the first-ever Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala, currently scheduled to take place May 12. The organization honors the top female student-athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District. The student-athletes are recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics and community service. Canetto is a scholar-athlete, a member of the National Honor Society and has been part of the University at Albany Science Research Program for three years. On the track, she set new local records in the 100 meters, 200m, 400m, as well as in the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays. She was the team’s Most Valuable Player for two years and competed at the state championship level and in the National Junior Olympics. Canetto is also a volunteer at the Roe Jan Library and at the Roe Jan Food Pantry. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
