CMH receives donation of portable ultrasound devices

Jul 21, 2020 1:30 pm
Columbia Memorial Health July 21 announced it has received three ultrasound scanning devices donated by Radiologists Without Borders. The handheld devices "are particularly well suited to be used at the bedside to generate chest scans of COVID-19 patients, eliminating the need to move patients to other areas where traditional scanning equipment is installed in fixed locations," according to a press release. The scanners will be used in the hospital's Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit in Hudson, and at the Rapid Care Centers in Valatie and Copake. Radiologists Without Borders was founded by Dr. Tariq Gill, CMH’s Chief of Radiology. The non-profit organization specializes in supplying diagnostic imaging equipment, training and support. CMH and Radiologists Without Borders have worked together before. Gill said the hospital previously donated medical equipment and supplies to his organization that were later used to treat civilian casualties in Ukraine.
