Saland to lose Conservative line

The Mid-Hudson News Network reports that New York State Senator Steve Saland will lose his endorsement from the Conservative Party after he voted for same-sex marriage Friday. Saland, who represents Columbia County in Albany, was the 32nd Senator to announce his public support for the measure, enough for the bill to pass the State Senate. Michael Long, the chairman of the state Conservative Committee said the party will not back Saland, R-Poughkeepsie, in the next election. “The Conservative Party has to be true to its principles and those principles are supporting marriage between a man and a woman and we can no longer endorse people who don’t respect that or honor that commitment,” he said.
