Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media three Catskill residents were left homeless after a fire engulfed their apartment unit early Wed., Dec. 16, Catskill Fire Chief John Holt said. The three people, two adults and one child, are now being assisted by the American Red Cross, and the family’s cats and a pet hamster were rescued, Holt said. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. At approximately 5:51 a.m., a resident of Meadow Woods Apartments on Route 385, called Greene County 911 to report flames coming out of the vents of their apartment. The tenants were advised to evacuate the building. When firefighters arrived shortly thereafter, they found smoke pouring out of the eaves around the building. The fire was located in the attic and that entire part of the building sustained heat and fire damage, Holt said. The chief said the building had recently undergone renovation. Fire companies from Athens, West Athens and Hudson also responded to the scene, along with the Battalion 5 tanker task force, to ensure there would be enough water available to fight the fire.
