Dec 11, 2020 6:33 am
There's beginning to be much evidence locally that a Thanksgiving surge of COVID-19 cases has arrived. Albany County reported new records for new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations on Dec. 10, and officials said it was likely a result of increased transmission over the Thanksgiving holiday. There were 208 new coronavirus cases announced in Albany County, which now has 98 residents hospitalized. There were also two more deaths in Albany County, bringing the total there to 172 people. Columbia County December 11, reported 21 new COVID-19 cases, and the last three days have seen higher totals than recently. Columbia County Health Director Jack Mabb told WGXC Dec. 10 that the increased spread was likely related to Thanksgiving. Greene County officials announced 12 more new coronavirus cases there. There were 62 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed by Rensselaer County Health Department on Dec. 10. Rensselaer County also announced two more deaths, for a total of 67 so far. There were also two more COVID-19-related deaths in Dutchess County, officials announced Dec. 10.
