Abelove back before judges in appeal
Oct 07, 2019 11:59 pm
Brendan J. Lyons reports in the Albany Times Union that former Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove was back before an appellate court Oct. 7, defending himself again on perjury and official misconduct charges related to his handling of a 2016 fatal police shooting in Troy. Last June state Supreme Court Justice Jonathan D. Nichols dismissed the case, saying the perjury charge Abelove got for false statements he made before a grand jury prejudiced the panel in its decision on official misconduct charges. Nichols also ruled that the state attorney general's office did not have the statutory jurisdiction to prosecute Abelove on the perjury charges. Abelove lost re-election to a second term last year after the judge dismissed the charges. Read more about this story in the Albany Times Union.
