Schumer calls for Sessions recusal in Flynn/Russia investigation
Feb 16, 2017 12:02 am
Laura Castro Lindarte reports in Capitol Confidential that New York Senator – and Senate Minority Leader – Chuck Schumer wants Attorney General Jeff Sessions to “recuse himself” for an investigation into resigned National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s ties with Russia. Sessions and Flynn were both senior advisers to Donald Trump during the presidential campaign, and the Department of Justice prohibits conflicts of interest in investigations. Flynn resigned Feb. 13 after he said he “inadvertently” mislead Vice President Mike Pence about his talks with a Russian ambassador. Schumer says the White House knew about Flynn’s lies, but “let him stay on for weeks, present at and participating in the highest level of national security discussions until those reports were made public.” Read the full story in Capitol Confidential.
