Columbia County Democrats pick Dow for election commissioner
Feb 03, 2020 12:57 am
Amanda Purcell reports for Columbia-Greene Media that Columbia County Democrats on Jan. 30 choose attorney Ken Dow for election commissioner. Dow would replace Virginia Martin, who the Board of Supervisors declined to approve for another term last month. Full Columbia County election results from November were not announced until January this year, as the elections office encountered all sorts of problems. Democrats picked Dow over Mark Young, co-owner of Mexican Radio; Erin Stamper, a Democrat who is an election specialist; and Penny Panoulias, secretary of the Clermont Democratic Committee. The final voted was 56 percent for Dow and 42 percent, for Stamper. Dow was the Democratic Election Commissioner in Columbia County from 2005 to 2008, and then resigned to run for the state Senate. Republicans replaced Jason Natske with Kelly Miller Simmons for their election commissioner in January, which was approved by the Board of Supervisors last month. The Columbia County Board of Supervisors will vote on the Dow nomination at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at 401 State St. Read more about this story at HudsonValley360.com.
