NY launching rental assistance program Thursday

Jul 16, 2020 5:45 am
CBS6Albany [dot] com is reporting renters in New York who lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic can now apply for help paying their rent through a new emergency rental assistance program. The program is funded with federal money provided in the CARES Act. Applications will be available online beginning July 16. Those who are eligible will be awarded a one-time subsidy that will be paid directly to landlords and housing providers. Tenants will not be required to repay the assistance money. They can apply for up to four months in rental assistance for the months of April through July. "Providing direct aid to overburdened renters will help these New Yorkers stay in their homes and be able to make ends meet," Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said in a statement. Assistance will be provided based on the families with the greatest economic and social needs, taking income level, rent burden, percentage of income loss, and risk of homelessness into account. Applications are available at HCR [dot] ny [dot] gov [slash] RRP. The deadline for submitting the application is July 31. Read the full story at CBS6Albany [dot] com.
