Physicians group opens drive-through testing center in Latham

Apr 01, 2020 9:00 am
Bethany Bump is reporting for the Times Union Community Care Physicians has opened a drive-through testing location in Latham for those suspected to have COVID-19. The Latham testing site is the first in the Capital Region that is unaffiliated with a hospital. And although test kits remain in short supply, the new site at 713 Troy-Schenectady Road is expected to increase the amount of testing being done across the region, said Joan Hayner, chief operating officer of the independent physicians’ group. Hayner said the Community Care group has more than 360,000 patients across the region. Due to the ongoing shortage of test kits, Community Care will prioritize testing for those most in need and those who are working on the front lines. To be tested, a person must be a Community Care patient, must have symptoms, and must fall into one of four high-risk categories as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Those who are not currently Community Care patients, but who otherwise fit the criteria for testing can use the group’s Latham or Albany urgent care centers as a way into the system.
