Corrections sergeant at Greene Correctional charged with rape
Diane Pineiro-Zucker is reporting for the Daily Freeman a corrections sergeant employed at the Greene Correctional Facility in Coxsackie is facing rape charges, accused of engaging in forcible sex acts with a victim from 2009 to 2011. The officer, Steven Gogger, 44, of Athens, was arrested May 26, by members of the state police at Catskill's Bureau of Criminal Investigation. He was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of a criminal sex act and sex abuse, all felonies. Gogger was arrested following a state police investigation that began in March when the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision “was made aware of a possible rape” by a department employee. Police did not clarify if Gogger is accused of raping an individual incarcerated at the prison or an employee. A DOCCS spokesman declined to comment on what was described as an ongoing investigation. Gogger was hired by DOCCS in January 1999; he has been suspended without pay, according to the department. He was processed in Athens Town Court and was remanded in lieu of $10,000 bail. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim and Gogger was ordered to turn over all firearms. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
