Greene Legislature disperses CDBG funds, makes loans

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Greene County Legislature has begun the process of liquidating $850,000 in Community Development Block Grant Program funds. The money must be dispensed by March 31 or the county risks losing CDBG funding. The state is requiring all municipalities to convert the loans to cash and use the money for eligible project, Last month, Greene County lawmakers approved 14 loans to 12 businesses: New York Spring Water, Inc., Just Pull Inn, C&C Excavating, Inc., New York Restaurant Catskill Corporation, Pippy’s Food Truck, Verdigris Tea, Marylyn Sewing, The Reed Street Bottle Shop, HiLo Café, Nordic House, Cat Trax, Inc. and Jagerberg. The businesses will repay the county so the funds can be distributed to future developments. To secure this type of funding in the future, the county approved the creation of a local development corporation on Nov. 7. The assets will be divided into about 21 loans, Greene County Tourism and Economic Development Community Development Specialist Karl Heck said. “We still have five or six more loans to give out,” Heck said.
