New law extends statute of limitations on rapes
Sep 19, 2019 12:31 am
Ryan Whalen reports for New York State of Politics that Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill Sept. 18 extending the statute of limitations for second degree rape from five to 20 years, and 3rd degree rape to ten years. "Five years is an insult to these survivors and today we’re providing them more time to come to terms with the trauma they experienced and to seek justice,” Cuomo said. The legislation takes effect immediately but if the statute of limitations has expired on a rape, this law does not change that. Read more about this story at New York State of Politics.
