Attorney General candidates spar over debates, tax returns

Oct 09, 2018 10:15 am
Richard Moody is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media state Attorney General candidate, Republican Keith Wofford, has challenged Democrat Tish James to participate in five debates before the November 6 general election. James, the two-term New York City Public Advocate, won the Democratic primary, Sept. 13. Wofford is a Buffalo native, and the co-managing partner of the Ropes & Gray law firm’s New York City office. James’ campaign has declined to say if she would participate in a debate with Wofford, suggesting the challenge is a way for him to deflect her call for the release of his tax returns. Traditionally, candidates running for statewide office release their tax returns, providing them to news outlets. James released five years of state and federal returns during the primary and called on Wofford to do the same October 3. “Of course Keith Wofford will release his taxes,” Wofford’s campaign spokeswoman Andrea Bozek. “But let’s not forget Letitia James only released her taxes the first time after news reports that she never reported her rental income in her financial disclosure forms. ...James proves she is a typical politician. She runs from debate requests for more than a week. Then asks for transparency after hiding her income from voters.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
