Liz Montgomery reports in Porcupine Soup that tolls on the New York State Thruway go up five percent on Jan. 1. Currently passenger cars with E-ZPasses pay 5.1 cents per mile, which will increase to 8.2 cents per mile in 2024, and 8.6 cents per mile by 2027. Thruway Authority Board of Directors Chair Joanne M. Mahoney said, “The Thruway Authority receives no dedicated federal, state or local tax dollars and relies primarily on toll dollars to maintain and operate the Thruway which is one of the safest and reliable toll roads in the country.” Thruway officials say the aging roadway is in need or repairs and updates.
