Memorial Day Events
5:45 a.m.: In Copake, American Legion Post 1160 Copake Falls and the Copake VFW Post 7955 will leave Copake Town Hall at 5:45 a.m. to visit 13 combined sites of cemeteries and veterans’ memorials located in Craryville, Ancramdale, Ancram, Copake Falls and Copake, returning at approximately 9:45 a.m. The tri-town area Memorial Day Parade will be held in Ancram starting at 11 a.m. and originating on Route 7, near Ancram Town Hall, finishing at the Blass Memorial Field with ceremonies. Refreshments will be served after the ceremonies at the Ancram Firehouse.
7 a.m.: Austerlitz will hold its Memorial Day ceremony on the village green at 812 Route 203. Coffee and doughnuts will be served afterward at Town Hall.
8 a.m.: The Stuyvesant Falls VFW Memorial Post 9593 will leave the post on Route 25 in Stuyvesant Falls to lay memorial wreaths and perform the post’s ritual at three cemeteries and two firehouses before returning to the post for brunch prepared by the wives of post members.
9 a.m.: The Athens Memorial Day Parade begins from the Little League fields to the triangle for a service at the American Legion Hall.
9 a.m.: The American Legion Post 252 of Philmont will begin Memorial Day services with a veterans’ breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. at the Vanderbilt House. The parade will line up at 8:30 a.m. at the old American Legion building and step off at 9 a.m. It will proceed along Main St. to the Memorial Park, where a service will feature keynote speaker U.S. Navy Capt. William Snyder, who works in the office of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Services at the Mellenville cemetery and the Catholic cemetery follow.
10 a.m.: The Germantown Memorial Day Parade will start on Main Street and finish at Palatine Park. The guest speaker will be Southern Columbia VFW Post 6398 Commander and retired U.S. Marine Master Sgt. Roger Rekow. The Germantown Fire Company will provide refreshments. A reception will be held at the Legion Post on 346 Woods Road at noon.
10:15 a.m.: The Hudson Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. at the Seventh Street Park Veterans Monument. The parade will then proceed down Warren Street and across Fourth Street to the Courthouse Park where the Memorial Day services will be held. Columbia County Judge Richard Koweek will be the guest speaker. A reception will follow the ceremonies at Hudson American Legion Post 184 located at 7 Fairview Ave. in Greenport. Seventh Street will be closed from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and, East and West Court streets will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
10 a.m.: The town of Kinderhook’s Memorial Day Parade will be held in Niverville. The parade will line up near the RnD Deli at 122 Lake St., and the parade will proceed down Main Street (Route 28) to Niverville Fire Department Station No. 1.
11 a.m.: The Ancram parade will begin at Ancram Town Hall, located at 1416 Route 7, and proceed to the Ancram Firehouse at the intersection of Route 7 and Route 82. A ceremony will be held immediately afterward at the town’s war memorial. Routes 82 and 7 will be closed from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Parking will be available at Blass Memorial Park and Town Hall.
11 a.m.: Cairo Memorial Day Parade at Angelo Canna Park, Cairo town park, just behind Main St., Cairo, NY Annual event sponsored by American Legion Mohican Post #983 from Town Hall to the Cairo Town Park.
11 a.m.: The Chatham Memorial Day Parade steps off from American Legion Post 42, located on 34 Wood Bridge Ave., and proceeds to the village green for a ceremony. The parade then continues back to the post where there will be an open house with refreshments.
4 p.m.: Memorial Day Parade along Catskill Main Street with ceremony at Court House.
5 p.m.: Middleburgh Memorial Day Celebration at Memorial Park, Main Street, Middleburgh. Congressman Chris Gibson (R-Kinderhook) will be in attendance.
