Ulster County adds Human Rights Protection Act

The Mid-Hudson News Network reports that Ulster County Executive Michael Hein on Sept. 12 signed the Ulster County Human Rights Protection Act of 2018 into law. “We have empowered our human rights commission to first mediate, but ultimately to also have teeth and make sure that people’s human rights are not violated in this county,” Hein said. “It provides an easy, local access point for people through our local human rights commission here in Ulster County to make sure that whether it is gender or whether it is sexual orientation or race, irrespective of any of the categories, people are not having their human rights violated in Ulster County without some level of recourse.” The law replicates a state regulation, and adds a local venue in which to mediate and settle complaints.
