Overlooked: African Music for Summertime (Audio)
After the local news at noon, this live broadcast will feature a variety of African sounds well suited for midsummer’s grinding heat with more than 20 tracks originating from Angola to Zimbabwe. Among the internationally known musicians are Ali Farka Toure, Thomas Mapfumo, and Oumou Sangare. Many lesser-known artists, such as Pat Thomas, Mizeha, and Damily, will be represented, too, along with up-and-coming artists such as Amaria Hamadalher. (A special thank you to Vanessa who I think turned me on to a bunch of this music!)
