Seattle sues over sanctuary city status
Apr 01, 2017 12:20 am
Reid Wilson at The Hill reports that the city of Seattle filed suit March 29 against President Donald Trump's executive order that would deny funding to so-called sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with federal immigration officials. The suit asks a judge to declare Trump’s order an unconstitutional violation of the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution by attempting to force the city to enforce federal immigration law. Hudson passed a similar sanctuary city resolution in March, and Kingston, Newburgh, and New Paltz have passed similar resolutions. On March 27, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Justice Department would withhold grants from sanctuary cities. Read the full story at The Hill.
