Hudson library names Benic as designer

Tom Casey is reporting in the Register Star Vincent Benic Architect of Manhattan has been chosen as the designer for the new Hudson Area Library space in the Armory building located at 51 N. Fifth Street. The 114-year-old building is owned by the GalVan Initiatives Foundation. The library will be located in the drill shed portion of the 36,000 sq. ft. structure. Galvan's Executive Director Tom Swope called Benic's selection a significant milestone, and said the foundation was excited to move forward with the project. The Benic firm provides architectural and planning services for commercial, institutional, and residential projects. Among its projects: The Brooklyn Central, Williamsburg and Fort Hamilton libraries. GalVan has committed $1.2 million for renovations, while the library will be responsible for furniture, fixtures and equipment, at an estimated budget of $500,000.
