Sidewalk phase of Skywalk project progressing and on time

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media work on the walkway that will connect the Olana State Historic Site in Greenport and the Thomas Cole Historic Site in Catskill on the Rip Van Winkle Bridge is progressing and on time, state Bridge Authority Chief of Staff Thomas Scaglione said this week. Phase one of the project is expected to be completed in November. The 4-foot sidewalk is being replaced and rehabilitated. The total cost of the project, including the sidewalk phase and the construction of scenic look-out points, is $5.4 million. The viewing platforms will be 10 feet deep and 50 feet long. The Skywalk project is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s statewide infrastructure investment plan. To celebrate the project, the Cole House, Olana, the Bridge Authority and the organization Historic Bridges of the Hudson Valley will host the first Skywalk Arts Festival featuring special events at both historic sites, on Sun., Sept. 24.
