Comptroller: No record of Stockport request

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star more on the fiscal management story shaking the Town of Stockport. As reported earlier this week, a recent audit by a private accounting firm exposed a $250,000 discrepancy in the town books, a fact revealed to residents at a recent public meeting. Two officials, Supervisor Matt Murrell and Town Board member Norma Kirker,said in the past two years the town repeatedly requested audit support from the state Comptroller's Office, to no avail. Contacted Thurs., Oct. 26, a spokesperson for Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli denied any such request was made, going back to 2011. Nor has the office received a missing funds complaint. There is no ongoing audit. DiNapoli's spokesperson said the decision to audit a municipality is triggered by an official request or based on complaints or concerns posed by residents.
