Faso supports bipartisan Russian influence inquiry
Ariél Zangla is reporting in the Daily Freeman U.S. Rep. John Faso says he backs a bipartisan investigation into possible Russian influence on the 2016 presidential election. However, the Kinderhook Republican said, the probe must be done in a way that will not compromise national intelligence. “I’ve said from the beginning that an investigation into Russia’s influence on the 2016 election must be handled in a secure manner so that our vital national security information is not leaked and used against us by our enemies,” Faso said. He believes the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is the most appropriate venue for the inquiry, because committee members will diligently follow the investigation where ever it leads. When asked if Attorney General Jeff Sessions may have perjured himself during his confirmation hearing, Faso said it was way too soon to accuse anyone of perjury. He said it is important to recognize that the Russian government has been attempting to influence opinion in the West for many years. “The Russian government is not our friend and Vladimir Putin is certainly not our friend,” Faso said.
