May 24, 2018 7:45 am

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Catskill Village Board adopted its proposed $6 million budget for 2018-19, May 22. Under the new spending plan, the tax rate will increase by 1 percent, and the water and sewer funds will grow. The annual trustee and justice salaries will remain the same. Salaries for police, public works and non-union employees all rose by 2 percent, Village President Vincent Seeley said. The cost of health insurance for village employees increased 7 percent for the coming year, and those costs are expected to keep rising in the coming years, Seeley said. The water budget increase includes fees necessary to begin work on the construction of a water tower in the village. The water fund is expected to increase by $200,000 the following year to pay for debt service on that proposed water tower, Seeley said. The village has no backup water supply. The village is fiscally strong and Seeley credited its department heads and employees for making sure it stays that way. The budget adopted this week went into effect immediately.
