False claims about proposition votes circulating on Facebook

Patricia Doxsey is reporting in the Daily Freeman a false claim is making the rounds on Facebook that if voters fail to vote "no," in November, on the proposition calling for a Constitutional Convention, the ballot will be automatically counted as a "yes." The false claim has been circulating on Facebook since at least August, officials said. “That is absolutely not true,” said Ulster County Democratic Elections Commissioner Ashley Dittus. “If you leave something blank, it’s listed as blank, it’s not cast as a yes or a no. It’s just blank.” The state Board of Elections has received numerous phone calls about the post from voters across New York. Election officials said that only ballots explicitly marked either “yes” or “no” will be tallied. In November, three statewide propositions will appear on the back of the ballot, including the question of holding a Constitutional Convention. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
