Cuomo signs revenge porn bill

Michael Gormley in Newsday reports that Gov. Andrew Cuomo July 23 signed a revenge porn bill, banning when images are transmitted with the intent to harm, harass, and embarrass. Revenge porn becomes a Class A misdemeanor, with up to a year in jail. Currently 46 other states and the District of Columbia have similar laws. “Our laws have not kept pace with technology and how abusers can use it to harass, intimidate and humiliate intimate partners,” Cuomo said. “We are empowering victims of this heinous act to take action against their abusers and showing them a path to justice."
